About

A small studio that asks better questions.

PlumAutomate is a software and automation studio. We build websites, applications and ecommerce stores, we automate the work that should never have been manual, and we help founders turn an idea into something real.

Why we work this way

Most studios wait for a brief. The trouble is that a brief is already an answer — by the time it is written down, the interesting decision has been made, usually by whoever shouted loudest. Plenty of software gets built that works exactly as specified and changes nothing.

So we start a step earlier. With an established team that means sitting with the people doing the work and finding where the ground is actually being lost — the double entry, the store nobody checks out of. With a founder it means pressure-testing the idea before it becomes a spec. Either way we then say which of it is worth building, and which of it honestly is not.

That is why the first call is free. Working out what to build is the part most people cannot do alone, and charging for it puts the useful conversation behind a purchase order. We would rather have the conversation and let the work follow.

We work remotely, and our clients are spread across several continents. That means invoicing in your currency, holding hours that overlap your working day where we can, and checking which data and accessibility rules actually apply to you rather than assuming ours do. Time zones are the only real constraint, and we will say up front if a project needs more overlap than we can give it.

Principles

Four things we will not trade away.

  1. Diagnose before you build

The brief is a hypothesis. We test it before spending your money on it.

  2. Say the unprofitable thing

If a build is not worth doing, or AI is the wrong tool, we say so — including when it costs us the work.

  3. Measure in outcomes

Hours saved, calls captured, returns avoided. Features shipped is our metric, not yours.

  4. Build so you could leave

Your code, your accounts, your data, documented for your team. Lock-in is not a retention strategy.

Who you work with

You will be talking to the person who builds the thing. There is no account manager in the middle relaying decisions, and no team of juniors you meet after signing.
