The brief

Sandcrete is the default across Nigeria, and its inconsistency is the problem EcoRed set out to solve. Their answer is the ground itself — laterite blended with pozzolan and cement, dosed to a lab formula and sealed with a batch number, then pressed into interlocking bricks that lay faster with less mortar. Lower-carbon, locally sourced, and, unusually for earth building, standardised enough for an engineer to specify. EcoRed put the saving at up to 30% of the build cost against sandcrete, an upper bound they publish with the underlying costing still to come. The site's job is to make that credible to builders who have never specified any of it, which is why certification, batch traceability and lab-tested strength sit as prominently as the number.
